How to start your process

nutri- bio’s professionally qualified advisers work with you to ensure that the maximum benefit is made from biosolids. They do this by assessing your need for the product, how best to integrate it into your rotation and go through how to minimise the impact of spreading come harvest. These advisors will become your primary point of contact at nutri bio and should be able to provide answers to all of your questions.

Requirements to process your order

The product advisor will need the following, in order to process your order:

NVZ farm risk map or a map of your farm.
Cropping or anticipated cropping for the fields you wish to apply biosolids to.
Where a stockpile could be located.

We use this information to ensure you are compliant and to complete Environment Agency permits. This can take up to 10 days.

Soil Sampling

This is a legal requirement and we take three samples:

LD sample – PTE’s sample and takes the base level of your soil’s metals content. Our products are low in metals and add less than 0.5% to your soils. This is taken every 20 years.
SN sample – this is the same as a standard nutrient sample, although unlike commercial sampling we only take one sample per field, to get a base line for the field. This is taken every 5 years. If you have an accredited SN sample we can use that.
OA sample – this is designed as a soil MOT, to ensure that background levels established in the LD samples are progressing as planned. This is taken once about 10 years after the LD.

Soil Analysis

The samples are processed through our own accredited laboratory. They are dried and ground and put through the following tests:

Mass spectrometry of the soil

pH

Soil density

Phosphorus extraction

The tests typically take 10 to 14 days to complete.

Risk Assessing

While the samples are being processed, the product advisor and a driver health and safety co-ordinator will assess the site for the following hazards:

Suitability of the site’s access.

Equipment needed to access the site, to minimise soil compaction and damage to the standing crop.

Compliance risks of stockpiling on the field, i.e., water courses, land drains, footpaths and field boundaries.

Delivery

We deliver 365 days a year and use low compaction equipment.

To prevent damage to the land, we use:

360 excavators with round nose buckets to stockpile in fields.

Tuff Trak mats; designed to reduce the psi of our lorries by 600%.

Volvo lorries with large tread tyres for working on loose surfaces.

Your product advisor will give you advanced warning of site set up and delivery and answer any questions regarding it.

Spreading

We use weight celled Vredo v4556 spreaders, with:

Up to 24 metre application widths.

Trimble guidance systems and auto steer.

Auto inflate and deflate tyre systems.

Large 1050 / 50R 32 low ground pressure tyres.

On average nutri-bio spreads about 380 000 tonnes of biosolids a year and around 90% of this happens at harvest, behind OSR or first wheats. Please give us as much notice as possible, for example the day before you desiccate your OSR or about 10 days before harvesting your wheat.

Compliance

We will supply you with a nutrient management plan for the biosolids applied. All our product advisors are FACTS qualified so can help with any other queries.
